Fun in Miami (150/365)

A busy and fun day in Miami began with a quick tour of the progress in my brother's new house. You might remember what it looked like a few weeks ago: http://sarapphotography.blogspot.com/2010/04/115365-renovating-davids-house.html

Well Ashley spent this week painting and it looks a LOT better.

Just to remind you - here is what the front room looked like before:

Now here's the repainted room! He still has to do the trim - probably in a simple white. The red carpet will come up and underneath is gorgeous terrazzo.

Then there was the room he has decided will be his office. It was covered in wall paper that was PAINSTAKINGLY removed by every member of the family!

Here's what it looked like with the wall paper down

There are these kinda cool closets in there

Here's what it looks like now. It's received a coat of primer and David is now choosing wall colors.

Finally the guest room. Previously it was a BRILLIANT shade of green.

Ashley choose the paint color for that room and it is now a BRIGHT shade of purple called Baroness

Later on we were back at the house hanging out with one of my favorite people - Anna Rosas. I noticed my parents' neighbor posted some yummy pictures of a mango daiquiri he had made on facebook and I made a comment about people across the street with empty tummies. Well about 30 minutes later to our complete surprise the door bell rang and there was our neighbor carrying this box!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So surprising and so yummy! My family has the BEST neighbors ever!

We spent the rest of the afternoon enjoying those drinks, the pool and the beautiful yard my family has. How pretty are their bougainvilleas?

My dad was working hard on repainting the back patio and we tried to stay out of his way

I snapped a few pictures of my lovely friend Anna (stay tuned for those) and then my mom took a few of us. Here are some edited versions

I added a sun flare to this one

Happy Mother's Day 129/365

For Mothers Day, I surprised my mom by driving down (unexpectedly) to Miami. I attended the schools prom the night before and she knew I had a photo deadline to make on Sunday. What she didn't know is that I stayed up until 2:45 am to meet that deadline, then caught a few hours sleep so I could get up and drive down to surprise her.

I met my brother outside in the yard when I got there and gave him the Mothers Day card I picked out for her. I had him take it in to her. Earlier I had apologized and told her that I mailed my card too late and it wouldn't be there by Saturday. So he went in and handed her the card, which she opened thinking it was from him. When she saw my name in it she was confused, then I came in. Tears of happiness abound. As I told her - we've been together for the past 32 Mother's Days - no reason to break that streak now!

The truth is - no one knows what will happen next year. This time last year I didn't expect my father to have been in the hospital not once but twice. Two of my closest friends have each lost a parent way too early. So if I loose a few hours of sleep and have a few more chores to catch up on when I get home - it's worth it to spend the time that I can with my mom. I love her.

How lovely is she?

My mom!

Gotta love my goofy brother.

We got a family portrait done before we headed off for dinner.

For dinner, we got together with our oldest friends to celebrate together. Bony (she'll always be Bony to me, even though the rest of the world knows her as Lavonia) served us a delicious dinner at her lovely home and it was wonderful to be together.

Isn't Bony lovely?

And funny too! Her students are so blessed to have her as a teacher.
