With my unexpected absence this summer, my garden is taking a beating. But some things are persevering.





As far as the veggie garden goes, my only true success has been marigolds. But I'm really great at those!

Things aren't so good after me being gone more than a week. Even with our fantastic cat sitter watering things, insects invaded.

An update on my garden.

Here is my square foot and container garden



In the square foot garden the first row are peppers, the second is tomatoes and the back row (not really visible from this point of view) is cucumbers. In the containers in the front are yellow squash. The small containers on the side are melons and the large container behind it is a watermelon. The hanging basket on the other side are morning glories. I also have two marigolds in the garden to attract ladybugs to fight the aphids.

My poor, poor garden

In about 36 hours my tomatoes have been devastasted. You can see what they looked like on Sunday here. Monday was raining, so I didn't got out to water. When I woke up on Tuesday - this is what I saw.



Shocked - I hurried outside to investigate.





It looked like something was munching on my garden! Could it have been this little guy?



No, no.

I found the culprit in this picture.



Can you see him? The giant caterpillar? The dreaded HORNWORM!!!!!!!!


How about now?





I had two of them and in about 36 hours they ate nearly all the leaves, flowers and tomatoes I had. I removed them and sent them away - here's hoping my garden recovers.
